Gurgaon reaches extreme temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius almost every summer. Most of us are lucky enough to be sitting at home, with fans and air conditioners. We have cold water available to us at all times.
However, there are thousands of people who do not have this privilege. There are people working outdoors and on the roads, like construction workers, fruit vendors, hawkers, and people who do not have a proper place to live. Most of these people do not have access to water, and if they do, it is mostly warm water due to the sun's heat. They face the risk of dehydration, fainting and heat stroke.
We wanted to do something about this, so we collected used water bottles from our residential colony. We washed and cleaned them, filled them with potable water, and kept them in the freezer for a while. The time when the heat is the worst is the afternoon, so after returning from school, we set out to distribute the bottles of cold water to anyone in need.
This became a regular habit with us and we keep distributing cold water in Gurgaon in the hot summer months.
